Pictures at an Exhibition
Beacon Community Choir
Beacon Community Choir performs a new piece by John Cameron, with Brookmead School choir and the Beacon Chamber Ensemble. With lyrics and music newly written and composed by John Cameron, Pictures at an Exhibition is a new take on the well-loved Mussorgsky Suite, but this time taking inspiration from an eclectic choice of more contemporary works covering a panoply of styles. These are choral works with the variety of artistic styles matched with a kaleidoscope of musical genres, from ethnic to rock, jazz to rap to acapella choir. A children's choir adds to the textures with singing, vocal sound effects and even rapping at times. As with the Mussorgsky, some movements are linked by 'Promenades', but this time they are jazz flavoured, with increasingly unsettling signatures. Pictures at an Exhibition will be complemented by a performance of John's universally appealing Kes Suite woven from themes from his 1969 film score.
