Birmingham Symphonic Winds

A gala concert to celebrate Birmingham Symphonic Winds’ 30th Anniversary featuring the world premiere of Shooting Star by Martin Ellerby with the CBSO's Oliver Janes.

Join Birmingham Symphonic Winds, an award winner of Classic FM’s 2022 Big Platinum Performance, for a special afternoon gala concert celebrating their 30th anniversary. They will be joined by Oliver Janes, principal clarinet at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Michael Collie, BBC Midlands Today presenter. The concert will showcase music BSW have played throughout their 30 years including Riverdance, Stars and Stripes Forever, their first commission by their inaugural patron Guy Woolfenden and the stirring Sword in the Crown by Edward Gregson narrated by Michael Collie. 

They will also be performing the world premiere of their latest commission of a new work by current patron composer Martin Ellerby – Shooting Star, in memory of original BSW member and clarinettist Simon Purkess.
