BLISSFUL BAROQUE
Canterbury Cantata Trust
On Saturday 1st February at 7.30pm, Canterbury Cantata, the chamber choir of the Canterbury based charity, Canterbury Cantata Trust, whose ethos is to enable “caring through singing” will perform a feast of Handel choral works in St Peter’s Methodist Church, Canterbury.
Following their successes in 2019 with Dido and Aeneas and the local composer, Paul Patterson’s Magnificat, the choir is opening the new decade with some wonderful Handel.
Emily Renshaw, the director of music at Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys, renowned for its wide engagement with music, will conduct the concert with the Canterbury Sinfonia collaborating with the choir in these exciting choral pieces. The Sinfonia, led by Stelios Chatziiosifidis and including members of the Leon Quartet will also perform Brandenburg Concerto no. 3 by J.S. Bach.
Through its ‘Sing to Beat’ and ‘Monday Music’ activities with local branches in Canterbury and Folkestone, Canterbury Cantata Trust is demonstrating the power of singing to improve wellbeing through a programme of solid research and by initiating and facilitating groups that bring people together to sing. The charity, established by Professor Grenville Hancox in 2012, is going from strength to strength and has attracted major funding to expand its network of singing groups round the country which focus on singing to support “People with Parkinson’s” and is leading the way in the promotion of “caring through singing”.
