Mass in B Minor, JS Bach

Canterbury Cantata Trust

“…one of the most Christian works in all of sacred music transcends and dissolves its confessional limits, serving instead the whole of humanity.” Yoshitake Kobayashi. Highly regarded, Canterbury Cantata is a small choir of hand-picked, experienced amateur singers directed by Grenville Hancox, performing some of the most challenging choral repertoire from the 16th to the 21st century. The B Minor Mass will be performed with the Camerata orchestra, a chamber group of professional instrumentalists led by Stelios Chatziiosifidis. The choir is part of Canterbury Cantata Trust, a charity helping people of all ages and abilities to improve health and wellbeing through active participation in singing.

Reviews for Canterbury Cantata and Camerata's performance of Handel's Messiah, December 2016. "This was the only Messiah sung this Christmas in Canterbury, and if you missed it, I am sorry. A small orchestra is such a treat, since every instrument is heard, and the Camerata gave precise attention to every note. For many musicians, Handel’s Messiah is all-too familiar, and so it is a rare joy when it is played, as it was this evening, as if for the first time. " "a smooth ensemble...with passion and vigour" "The Wow factor" "A highly memorable performance" "great feeling, dramatic precision and true professionalism"
