A Concert for Ukraine

Chester Philharmonic Orchestra

Chester Cathedral in Association with Chester Philharmonic Orchestra will give a performance of Beethoven's 9th Symphony 'the Choral' with profits to the DEC Ukraine Appeal.

The plight of the Ukrainians and the destruction of some of their cities as part of Russia's Special Military Operation has caused outrage in the rest of the world.

Millions of children and families are in immediate danger as war continues to escalate in Ukraine.

Homes, schools, water supplies and hospitals have been damaged or destroyed. Children have been separated from their families, and hundreds of thousands of people have been left without clean water, food, or electricity.

The UN estimates that crisis has displaced an estimated 6.6 million people inside the country and caused an additional 6.3 million to cross international borders.

Stephen Threlfall will be conducting this exciting event in collaboration with members of Chester Music Society Choir, Manchester Chamber Choir and St George’s Singers Stockport with some great vocal soloists.

The choice of this epic symphony for the concert is that it gives hope for the future using Schiller's poem, 'Ode to Joy', with its plea for brotherhood.
