In Monte Oliveti - choral music for Palm Sunday, led by Renaissance music specialist David Allinson

Early Music Forum of Scotland

From 10am on March 23rd 2024 at Inverleith St Serf's Church, Clark Road, Edinburgh EH5 3BD, David Allinson  will lead a Choral Workshop on early music for Palm Sunday, when we will sing a variety of Renaissance motets by Lassus, Victoria, Weelkes, Guerrero and others. Based in Canterbury, David is a freelance conductor and Early Music specialist who has taught at both Bristol University and Canterbury Christ Church University. He conducts The Renaissance Singers in London, and has a wealth of enthusiasm and experience working with organisations such as Tenebrae, Voces8 and Glyndebourne Touring Opera.

Palm Sunday, which marks the start of Holy Week, recalls Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem and foretells his Passion. Composers have responded with intense and dramatic musical settings. For this one-day workshop we will sing a selection of Renaissance motets by Lassus, Victoria, Guerrero and others, which range from joyful to heart-rending; from dramatic to penitential.
