In Flanders Fields
Eltham Choral Society
The major piece in our concert on 18 March 2017 will be a commissioned work and world premiere of 'In Flanders Fields' by Gareth Treseder. The work will be conducted by musical director Max Barley with Charles Andrews accompanying.
The piece is an evocative setting of a number of war poems, including 'In Flanders Fields' as well as poems by A E Houseman and Wilfred Owen, remembering the sacrifices made by that generation and includes some poignant references to popular music of the day.
Gareth Treseder graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where he was awarded the Manning Singing Prize for tenors. He has sung with The Sixteen and BBC Singers. We understand that the BBC Singers wish to record the new work after our premiere. Gareth also sung in our own concert in June 2013.
Eltham Choral Society is a large choir of around 100 singers based in SE London.
The concert will also include other pieces, including Vivaldi's Gloria.
