Choral Workshop
Exeter Festival Chorus
Saturday 7th May 2022 in The Mint Methodist Church Centre, Fore Street, Exeter
Andrea Brown, musical director
Peter Adcock, piano
EFC welcomes all singers to join our ever-popular annual workshop under our new Musical Director Andrea Brown with Peter Adcock, piano accompaniment.
The work is unique amongst Handel’s oratorios in making abundant use of choruses; it celebrates the story of a nation, and the main protagonist is the choir itself. At a 1784 performance of Israel in Egypt Franz Joseph Haydn is said to have been reduced to tears by the dramatic power of the work, saying “Handel is the Master of us all!”
The complete work will be performed on Saturday 25th June 2022 with Devon Baroque and young soloists from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. We offer the workshop as an opportunity for confident singers to consider joining us for our summer term to rehearse and take part in the concert performance.
Hot and cold drinks will be available during the morning, lunch, and afternoon breaks. The excellent central location of the venue means easy access to nearby car parking, and park and ride stops. Nearby shops, cafés and restaurants provide a choice of lunch options and there is also a seating area at the church to relax and enjoy your own picnic lunch if desired.
