Exeter Festival Chorus

With Cantorum, Blundell’s School

Conductor Andrea Brown
Organ Peter Adcock
Soprano Amy Carson
Baritone Frederick Long

In celebration of the inventive genius of Da Vinci and the industrial heritage of Tiverton’s textile industry, Exeter Festival Chorus presents a programme of music ancient and modern – old texts are presented with both centuries-old settings and new music by living composers.

The concert features Cecilia McDowall’s Da Vinci Requiem, which was written in 2019 to coincide with the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death and was inspired by his extraordinary philosophical thoughts about the nature of mortality (sung in English and Latin).

Also in the programme are works by exciting contemporary composers, including Eric Whitacre’s Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine, Roderick Williams’ Ave Verum Corpus Reimagined! (based on the setting by William Byrd) and award-winning video games composer Jessica Curry’s The Light We Cast, plus Purcell’s Hear my Prayer and Lotti’s beautiful Crucifixus a 8.

EFC is grateful to Heathcoat Fabrics Limited of Tiverton for its generous sponsorship of this concert.

The venue has full disabled access and facilities. Accompanying carers are eligible for free entry.
Running time: 90 minutes plus a 20-minute interval, when refreshments will be available.
