The Creation

Haydn wrote this wonderful work between 1797 and 1798 and it is considered by many to be his masterpiece. It depicts and celebrates the creation of the world as described in the Book of Genesis and Milton’s Paradise Lost. Haydn’s inspiration to compose an oratorio can be traced to his visits to London, where he was able to hear Handel’s oratorios performed, and it is fascinating to hear the echo of Handel in this beautiful piece. We shall be performing the English version and so our audience will be able to follow every line of the action.
