Finchley Symphony Orchestra opens its season with a concert of romantic rarities and a well-loved favourite, conducted by Christopher Stark.

Rachmaninov only completed one movement of his early ‘Youth’ symphony which nonetheless points the way to his later great symphonic compositions.

The music of the Anglo-African Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was hugely popular a hundred years ago but is rarely heard today.   Jordan Brooks, a talented young South African, winner of prizes in South Africa, China and the UK, will play his Violin Concerto in G minor.

On more familiar territory Dvorak’s seventh symphony is brimming with typically Bohemian melody, dance and drama.
