Glasgow Senior Citizens' Orchestra | Making Music

Glasgow Senior Citizens' Orchestra

The Glasgow Senior Citizens Orchestra was founded over 60 years ago and has provided regular entertainment for many, mainly elderly, communities throughout greater Glasgow since. From modest beginnings, there are now almost 60 members, a mix of retired professional musicians and enthusiastic amateurs. A wide range of popular and appealing music is performed, from light classics to selections from musicals and arrangements of Scottish and other well-known music.
The orchestra rehearses at Knightswood Community Centre where two concerts are held each year. Concerts are also held by invitation at community venues which have suitable accommodation. The highlight of each season is a concert in the Banqueting Hall of Glasgow’s City Chambers in May. All concerts are free, and rehearsals are also open to attend.
The present Musical Director is Colin Suckling who recently retired as professor of chemistry at Strathclyde University and is an accomplished and experienced musician.
New members are welcome in most sections. Enquiries can be sent to the secretary at gscosecretary@yahoo.co.uk . Further information is also available on the website (gsco.org.uk).
