Spring Concert

Henley Symphony Orchestra

Conductor: Ian Brown
Cello: Sheku Kanneh-Mason

For our annual Hexagon concert in the spring, the young and prodigiously talented cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason will perform Elgar’s masterpiece Cello Concerto. Sheku won the BBC Young Musician competition in 2016, aged 17, and was chosen to play an arrangement of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah at the televised 2017 BAFTA awards at the Royal Albert Hall. In the second half, we play Mahler’s revolutionary Symphony No 1 ‘Titan’, which he composed for 100 players at the age of 28. The symphony follows the ambitions and travails of a young hero, from its spellbinding opening to the triumphant ending.

Mozart: Marriage of Figaro: Overture
Elgar: Cello Concerto
Mahler: Symphony No. 1 'Titan'
