Monumental Mozart and New Created Haydn

For their Spring concert this year, Kingston Choral Society brings you one of the jewels in the classical crown – Mozart’s magnificent Mass in C Minor. The concert will also feature the frenetic yet ultimately consolatory Insanae et Vanae Curae by Mozart’s great friend and mentor, Haydn.  The third piece in this richly fascinating programme is a musical curiosity, one that will be both familiar and unfamiliar to classical repertoire afficionados.

Haydn’s The Creation oratorio is enduringly popular.  His Italian contemporary, Luigi Gatti, was a great admirer and, soon after its 1799 premiere, he selected movements from The Creation which matched the proportions of the mass, and ingeniously adapted the liturgical texts to suit the music. The resulting Creation Mass in A Major is a little-known delight.

You can enjoy this wonderful programme at 7.30pm on Saturday 25 March at All Saints Church, Kingston. The Thames Sinfonia orchestra will accompany the choir, which is conducted by Andrew Griffiths. In line with Kingston Choral Society’s aim to support the careers of talented young musicians, the four soloists are National Opera School Young Artists or recent alumni.
