Choral Discoveries: Jesu, Meine Freude - Lea Singers

Lea Singers

Harpenden’s leading chamber choir continue their new series of Choral Discoveries, with an atmospheric programme exploring the highways and byways of choral music in the Lady Chapel of St. Albans Abbey.

Bach’s Jesu, meine Freude has a simple austerity that sits perfectly with its origins as a funeral motet, and Bortniansky’s music was definitely influenced by the Baroque. Nystedt’s epic Prayers of Kierkegaard follows, full of Nordic spices, and the concert builds to a dramatic climax using Hindu Temple gong and organ in Tavener’s Mother and Child.

If you’re a first-timer, dip into over 400 years of singing. And even if you’re an expert, we guarantee you’ll hear something you haven’t heard before!
