Lewisham Choral Society

Hackney Singers and Lewisham Choral Society join the London Mozart Players and first-class soloists in Bach’s B Minor Mass. A lifetime of composition, innovation and musical genius is found in this astonishing work. Completed in his final years, a lifetime of composition, innovation and musical genius is found in Bach’s astonishing Mass, for which he compiled and refined some of his finest liturgical music, preserving his musical and artistic creed for posterity.

The London Mozart Players are internationally renowned for their outstanding live performances and CD recordings of the core classical repertoire, working closely with many of the world’s finest conductors and soloists.

Acclaimed soprano Elin Manahan Thomas has performed with many leading orchestras and conductors. She has released five solo albums and recently performed Karl Jenkins' Cantata ‘Aberfan’ with Bryn Terfel.  As well as performing, Elin is a successful TV and radio presenter.

Reviewers have described soprano Helen Meyerhoff’s voice as having “utmost dramatic force" while praising the  “show-stopping impact” of alto Roderick Morris’s performance. Tenor David de Winter has performed with English Touring Opera and at Glyndebourne, while bass Philip Tebb is in much demand around the UK in both opera and oratorio roles.

The 300-strong combined choir make a welcome return to the Festival Hall, following their two previous performances to packed houses. Besides concerts, the choirs participate regularly in events and projects, working with organisations such as the BBC and the Young Vic. Both choirs were proud to take part in the Paralympic Games opening ceremony in 2012.

Conductor and former ‘Choirboy of the Year’ Dan Ludford-Thomas has performed in many major venues and directs several choirs, including Hackney Singers and LCS, as well as the hugely successful Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.
