Brahms' German Requiem
Lower Windrush Choral Society
Lower Windrush Choral Society will be performing Brahms' German Requiem, scored for two pianos, rather than for orchestral accompaniment. Brahms (a virtuoso pianist) wrote the piano accompaniment himself, and the London Version was first performed in this country in 1871. Unlike most Requiems, which offer prayers for the souls of the dead, the text of this work focuses on comforting those who mourn.
Soloists: Quentin Hayes (baritone) and Rachel Speirs (soprano).
Pianists: Benedict Wilson and James Winkley.
The work will be sung in English under the direction of Terry McNamara.
