Pleyel Ensemble

Middlewich and District Concert Society

For the last concert of the 2018-2019 season the Middlewich and District Concerts Society are delighted to welcome back Heather Bills (cello) and Harvey Davies (piano) of the Pleyel Ensemble to give a recital for cello and piano.

Heather was born South Australia, but studied in London at the Royal College of Music. She was the Co-principal Cellist of the Halle Orchestra for seven years and now has a busy freelance career. The fine tone of her 200 year-old cello would justify the admission price anywhere.

Harvey is well established as a fine chamber musician and accompanist. He founded the Pleyel Ensemble, which brings together some of the UK’s leading instrumentalists who share a passion for chamber music past and present.

The recital begins with a collection of six songs by Brahms, arranged for cello and piano. Then they will play the first of Beethoven's Opus 5 sonatas, a youthful work already showing great talent. The second half will start with two short, contrasting pieces by Frank Bridge, Scherzo and Mélodie. To conclude the concert they will play Brahms's cello sonata in F, one of the great pieces in the repertoire.

The concert will be held in the Drama Studio of Middlewich High School, which is on the junction of King Edward Street and St. Ann's Walk, Middlewich, (CW10 9BE), on Saturday 18th May, 2019 at 7.30 p.m. Tickets are £10 (concessions) and will be available at the door.
