Programme (on occasion, the artists may make minor changes to the published programme)
Mozart Kegelstatt Trio KV 498
Julius Röntgen Trio for clarinet, viola and piano in E flat major
Bruch Three pieces (from eight) for clarinet, viola and piano Op. 83
Françaix Trio
Metamorphoses is a recently formed trio originally inspired by the Mozart Kegelstatt Trio. All three musicians have established solo careers in their own right.
Our concert will open with the Kegelstatt ( meaning 'a place where skittles are played') followed by a Röntgen trio. The composer was a relative of the discoverer of X rays and was known to refer to himself as 'not the famous one'! although he was well known in his own right as a composer of chamber music. A selection of pieces from Bruch's suite of eight pieces for this ensemble follows and the concert is concluded by Françaix's trio.
'Metamorphoses are fantastic, incredibly clever, tight and very polished. Beautiful phrasing…' BBC Radio 3 Record Review
