Newcastle Choral Society | Making Music

Newcastle Choral Society

Newcastle Choral Society was founded in 1954 as the St. Andrews Singers, becoming the St. James and St. Basil Singers in 1957 before adopting its current name and persona in 1986. So we have recently celebrated our 70th anniversary!

Membership is drawn from around the North East with around 60 regular singers. We perform two major concerts each year ranging from the traditional choral repertoire to modern works, with professional orchestras and soloists. There are smaller events at Christmas time. An ability to sight read music is NOT required to become a member, just an enthusiasm to learn about and sing new and traditional compositions.

Our next event is a Come and Sing day in September when anyone and everyone is invited to come along and join the choir as we work our way with our Musical Director through movements of Haydn's magnificent work "The Creation". We will be performing it at our concert in Newcastle Civic Centre Banqueting suite in March 2026. We would love you to join us for the day; it's your chance to see how the choir operates and to help you decide whether you would like to be a part of this exciting performance next year. Musical scores will be provided; an ability to sight-read music is NOT required. There will be refreshments to keep you going during the day.
