Mozart’s ‘Great’ Mass in C Minor is a monumental feast of musical innovation influenced by the composer’s love and study of the compositional giants of the baroque. Featuring rousing choruses for massed double choir and some of his most intricate solo writing, particularly for the high soprano voice, the piece is a real tour-de-force of Mozartian splendour. It is likely that his wife Constanze was the first person to sing these infamous soprano arias and the piece is often believed to be a love-offering to her.
The programme is rounded off with Haydn’s stirring anthem, Insanae et Vanae Curae and Mozart’s ‘Linz’ Symphony. Join the North Herts Guild of Singers, a quartet of fantastic young soloists and the Beaufoy Sinfonia formed of the top graduates from the London conservatoires for an unforgettable evening of Viennese splendour.
