From Dawn to Dusk: Music and Sonnets

Petros Singers

As the light fades on this midsummer evening, the choir will trace the changing energies and enthusiasms of a single day from dawn to dusk, interspersed with Shakespeare’s sonnets and organ works. The programme will feature a kaleidoscope of composers including Benjamin Britten, Gerald Finzi, John Ireland, Anton Leanderson-Andréas, Josef Rheinberger and Eric Whitacre. Central to the programme is Bob Chilcott's Fragments from His Dish, a bucolic and frivolous set of part-songs celebrating the excellence of fine food and drink. The evening promises to be filled with music and readings of variety, contemplation and fun.

Petros Singers is a well-regarded auditioned chamber choir with a reputation for high-quality singing and innovative programmes. We perform a wide-ranging and diverse repertoire, and collaborate with top-class orchestras and soloists in West and Central London and occasionally further afield.

Richard Bannan, our musical director, is a baritone, conductor and arranger. He sings with many of the country's leading vocal ensembles, including the Choir of St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle where he is a lay-clerk. Andrew Wells will be the organist.
