We Who are Left

Reading Bach Choir

This choral chamber concert commemorates the 1918 armistice with a reflective programme of works by five English composers reflecting their own musical backgrounds and wartime experiences.

Gerald Finzi Requiem da Camera, Gustav Holst’s Ode to Death (1922), Imogen Holst Three Psalms (1943), George Dyson Hierusalem (1956), Elgar’s Sospiri.

In his pre-concert talk, Andrew Burn, a member of the Finzi Trust, will focus on the relationship between Gerald Finzi and his composition teacher Ernest Farrar and explore the Requiem da Camera which, for all its elegiac quietude, is also a lament for the heartbreak of war.

Reading Bach Choir are joined by the New English Chamber Orchestra and soloists Nia Coleman (soprano) and James Newby (baritone) and directed by David Young.
