Spring Concert in Rochester Cathedral
Rochester Choral Society
For our Spring Concert, Rochester Choral Society presents Bob Chilcott’s melodious and deeply moving St. John Passion (first performed in Wells Cathedral on Palm Sunday, 2013), in which the Gospel story of events leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion is interspersed with fresh, new settings of Passiontide hymns and poignant choral Meditations expressing very human responses to death, life and man’s relationship with God. This dramatic and emotional work contrasts with a collection of technically complex but beautiful motets suitable for Passiontide. The soaring harmonies of these works will be perfectly complemented by the majestic setting of Rochester’s ancient Cathedral. The choir will be conducted by Scott Farrell and accompanied by the Cathedral organ and a small instrumental ensemble.
