Glorious Baroque

Salford Choral Society

Join Salford Choral Society and the acclaimed Baroque in the North orchestra for an evening of popular baroque music – featuring a performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria, one of sacred music’s most uplifting choral works.

The centrepiece of the concert, Vivaldi’s well-known composition is a joyful hymn of praise and worship written in 12 short movements. It includes moments of high drama, quiet contemplation and stunning choral harmonies – enhanced by rich instrumental counterpoints.

Also included in the programme is Pergolesi’s short choral masterpiece, Magnificat, and Bach’s early church cantata Der Herr denket an uns (The Lord Careth for us) – a brief piece based on the text of Psalm 115.

Tom Newall, Music Director for Salford Choral Society, said: “This is a concert that will delight classical music fans and newcomers alike. “It celebrates some of the most beautiful pieces of sacred music ever written, and Vivaldi’s Gloria has an immediate and universal appeal.” He added: “Combining Salford Choral Society’s trademark ‘wall of sound’ with instrumental support from the talented Baroque in the North orchestra will make for a memorable occasion. We look forward to welcoming you on the night.”
