This Sceptr'd Isle, This England: Folk songs, madrigals and English Composers in celebration of St George's Day and Shakespeare's Birthday
Serenata Female Voices
Serenata, a vibrant choir of experienced female singers from across East Anglia, presents a feast of English music for St George's Day and Shakespeare's birthday. Let us take you on a musical journey through Fields of Gold and Linden Lea to Scarborough Fair. You will hear a Silver Swan, larks and nightingales and Orpheus, with his lute, charming the trees and mountains. We pay homage to Shakespeare with settings of some of his most lyrical words, including Bob Chilcott’s lively invitation to hold hands and dance on yellow sands, accompanied by barking dogs and cock-a-doodle-dos and Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, where a chorus of Fairies lull Queen Titania to sleep.
Come along and enjoy this celebration – there will be homemade cakes and refreshments to tempt you further.
