Shropshire Chamber Orchestra

The Shropshire Chamber Orchestra is a group of enthusiastic musicians who come together to perform music mainly from the Classical symphonic repertoire. Part of our programme of concerts is to help raise money for charities. The orchestra grew out of a collaboration between Shifnal Chorale and the Telford Orchestra. In March 2009 the orchestra presented our first full concert in October 2009 at Holy Trinity, Much Wenlock. It was at this stage we felt the orchestra needed its own identity. The name reflects our location. We meet twice a year, usually the weekend after Easter and in the Autumn, currently the last weekend in September. We rehearse Friday evening in our Sunday venue, usually St. Alkmund's Church in Shrewsbury, Saturday afternoon and then an evening concert in the Saturday venue. Our Sunday concert includes tea and cakes at the interval making a pleasant Sunday afternoon. With such limited rehearsal the standard of player is very high, our soloists come from within the orchestra and concerts are always well received.
