South Birmingham Sinfonia - Music from a small island
South Birmingham Sinfonia
South Birmingham Sinfonia celebrates 50 years of music-making with some evocative English music.
Doreen Carwithen's overture, 'One Damn Thing After Another' (ODTAA) is based on a novel by John Masefield about a fictional island. Sir Adrian Boult conducted a Birmingham premiere 75 years ago.
Frank Bridge's orchestral suite, 'The Sea' creates beautiful musical images of the ocean, from calm moonlight to a tempestuous storm.
Edward Elgar's Symphony No.1 is full of power and passion, with noble themes and lyrical motifs.
South Birmingham Sinfonia will be conducted by Sabrina Ko and led by James Hamilton.
This concert is in support of the Hospice Charity Partnership.
