Une Soiree d'Amour
Stafford Sinfonia
Featuring a wonderful selection of the most romantic music from three centuries, our concert is the perfect way to celebrate Valentine’s weekend.
Many stage works are based on stories of love, and the Sinfonia’s selection of orchestral music from opera and ballet will explore themes of fidelity in Mozart’s Overture to the opera ‘Cosi fan Tutte’, seduction in Bizet’s ‘Carmen’ Suites I & II, jealousy and revenge in Masacgni’s ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’ (we are playing the famous ‘Intermezzo’) and forbidden romance and tragedy in Gounod’s ‘Romeo and Juliette’ ballet music.
We will also be playing sumptuous, romantic melodies such as Elgar’s ‘Salut d’Amour’, the second movement of Barber’s Violin Concerto, and ‘The Swan’ from ‘The Carnival of the Animals’ by Saint-Saens. You can find a full programme list on our website.
We are looking forward to performing this challenging repertoire, and very much hope you can join us for what promises to be an enjoyable evening of romance!
