Stroud Choral Society perform 2 works by the Haydn Brothers. The beautiful Requiem in C by the lesser known Michael Haydn greatly influenced Mozart. After the interval, the choir will sing Joseph Haydn's Nelson Mass, or Missa in Angustiis (Mass for troubled times). This mass, written in 1798, was composed after Napolean had shelled Vienna. It is more commonly known as the Nelson Mass in honour of the British admiral who destroyed the French fleet in 1798.
