Thames Head Singers – Stroud’s Chamber Choir

The Thames Head Singers is a vibrant chamber choir of around 30 voices, based in Stroud, Gloucestershire. We’re serious about singing well, but just as serious about enjoying the journey together.

Our repertoire is varied – from Renaissance motets and choral classics to contemporary works, jazz, folk songs and fresh arrangements of pop favourites. We occasionally commission and premiere new pieces, keeping our programmes exciting and unique.

Each year we perform three main concerts, with recent highlights ranging from Byrd and Britten to George Shearing, Will Todd and Paul McCartney. For some, we perform with an orchestra and professional soloists. Alongside our concerts, we love being part of special occasions, singing at weddings and community events.

Our Musical Director, Andrew Hopwood, brings over 30 years of experience as a professional singer, vocal coach and teacher. His rehearsals are both challenging and inspiring, with a healthy dose of humour. We also run occasional workshop days to polish tricky pieces or develop our skills further.

Singing with us isn’t just about Tuesday rehearsals (though those are a highlight!). Members often meet up in smaller groups for informal sing-throughs, a post-rehearsal drink, or as a whole choir for our lively social events.

We welcome singers of all backgrounds and levels of experience. Some of us have been immersed in choral music for years, while others are relatively new – but what unites us is enthusiasm and a love of making music together. And extra support is on hand if you need it.

We’re always delighted to hear from potential new members. So if you enjoy singing, why not come along and see if we’re the right choir for you?
