ELGAR AND THE GERMAN ROMANTICS with the Elgar Chorale of Worcester
The Elgar Chorale
The Elgar Chorale of Worcester present a wonderful programme of music to warm everyone up on a chilly November evening in the impressive space on St Martin’s Church, London Road, Worcester: so make a date for Saturday, November 5th at 7.30pm for some choral fireworks!
The music we are showcasing will be works by Elgar, including a sparkling choral arrangement of ‘Sea Pictures’ by Donald Fraser and his rousing ‘Te Deum’ alongside the gentle sounds of his salon piece ‘Salut D’Amour’ written as a marriage gift to his wife Caroline Alice Roberts, one of his piano students: violinist Shulah Oliver will accompany the Chorale in the arrangement by the choir’s founder, Sir Donald Hunt.
Elgar’s style drew on all the major influences of the day, while forging a highly personal and distinctly British style from them. His music was firmly rooted in the German Romanticism of Brahms and Bruckner and the programme visits lovely motets by these composers too. On the piano and mighty organ of St Martin’s will be Chris Allsop to add variety and grandeur to the sound. Piers Maxim directs.
It is good to see audiences returning to live music again and so come along and hear ‘Elgar and the German Romantics’.
