For the Fallen

Vivace

Faure’s 'Requiem’ will be the centrepiece of this concert of remembrance for the fallen men and women of World War 1.  There will also be songs from poets and composers of the era and readings from letters and archives

The concert will be proceeded with a Come and Sing day from 10:00 - see separate entry.

Conducted by Robert Bunting, here's what he has to say about the Requiem

‘Faure is the only composer who fought in the war to have written a Requiem.  A powerful exploration of pain, grief and consolation. Faure’s treatment of the text is subtle and intimate, quite unlike other well-known settings by Mozart or Verdi.  There are glorious melodies with expressive harmonies interspersed with one or two passages of complex choral writing.’

Songs by Ivor Gurney and George Butterworth, and Anthems by Douglas Guest and Parry will also be included in this concert which we expect to be a fitting tribute to those who fought and those who were left behind 100 years ago
