Elgar - The Dream of Gerontius

Worcester Festival Choral Society

The Dream of Gerontius by Sir Edward Elgar, one of the choral world’s most vivid, stirring and popular compositions, is being brought to the magnificent surroundings of Worcester Cathedral by the 150 voices of Worcester Festival Choral Society.

Depicting the final moments of ‘everyman’ Gerontius and the dramatic journey of his soul into the afterlife, this ravishing work, brimming with musical drama and emotion, established Worcestershire-born Elgar as the leading composer of his day.

Accompanying the Chorus – one of England’s leading choirs of its kind – will be internationally acclaimed soloists (Marta Fontanals-Simmons - mezzo soprano / Angel, Mark Wilde - tenor / Gerontius, Njabulo Madlala - baritone / Priest & Angel of the Agony) and the superb Meridian Sinfonia orchestra, all under the baton of Worcester Cathedral's director of music Samuel Hudson.
