Handel: Messiah
Worcester Festival Choral Society
A memorable evening of glorious, seasonal choral music in the majestic setting of Worcester Cathedral, Worcester Festival Choral Society’s Messiah is the region's ultimate Christmas concert.
For more than 275 years, George Frideric Handel’s compelling and richly varied Messiah has held a unique place in the affections of music lovers across the world. Its greatest choruses – such as the instantly recognisable Hallelujah and For unto us a Child is Born – are among the most popular pieces of music ever written.
During the London premiere of Messiah in 1743, King George II is said to have risen to his feet during the Hallelujah - a tradition that continues today.
Performing with the 150 members of Worcester Festival Choral Society are the Meridian Sinfonia period orchestra and acclaimed soloists: Susanna Fairbairn, soprano, Joyce Tindsley, mezzo soprano, Nick Pritchard, tenor and Njabulo Madlala, baritone.
WFCS and Worcester Cathedral Director of Music Samuel Hudson conducts.
