New Musical Director for Community Choir

 

The People’s Choir, Yeovil is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Musical Director from September 2018 to challenge, encourage the choir in a positive, supportive and enjoyable way. 

We are a non auditioned, well established community choir of mixed ability with about 50 people, where everyone is welcome whether or not they have experience of singing or reading music. The choir gives two concerts per year in the Summer and Christmas at St John’s Church, Yeovil, as well as other occasions such as informal concerts in the community, performances at the Octagon Theatre and joining forces with larger choral societies. 

Rehearsals are held at St John’s Church Schoolrooms BA20 1HE, on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 – 9pm in term time.  The fee is to be discussed, based on experience.

Job Description:

  • Experience of conducting a large choir and relevant training
  • Have a wide knowledge of choral music from a variety of genres
  • Select appropriate and balanced repertoire for concerts in liaison with the Librarian and Treasurer
  • Extend the choir’s repertoire, challenge and nurture each member or varying ability
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills
  • Work with the choir committee and attend meetings when required
  • An ability to arrange/compose and teach by ear would be an advantage
  • Have the ability to make rehearsals enjoyable and interact with the choir
  • Be prepared to make a firm commitment to the choir
  • Conduct rehearsals and direct rehearsals in liaison with the choir accompanist
  • The successful candidate will have a three month probationary period to be reviewed by both parties at that time.
