STANMORE CHORAL SOCIETY, HARROW, HA7 4TJ

A vacancy has arisen for the position of MUSICAL DIRECTOR (MD), following the relocation of our previous MD. It is anticipated that the new Musical Director will start in September 2019, with the option to start in April 2019.

About us:

  • We are a SATB choir of about 45 adult members rehearsing weekly with a resident accompanist
  • We currently perform 3-4 concerts a year, held in a local church.
  • At present we perform a range of sacred and secular choral works as well as a variety of other genres of music such as light opera, jazz and songs from the shows.
  • We rehearse on Mondays evenings 7.45-9.45 in term time in the church hall of St William of York, Du Cros Drive, Stanmore, HA7 4TJ
  • We have an elected committee which supports the Musical Director and who oversee the running of the choir and its organisation.

 

Stanmore Choral Society is registered with the Charity Commission. The objectives of the Stanmore Choral Society are: The study and practice of choral music in order to foster the public knowledge and appreciation of such music by means of public performance.

 

Our expectations of a Musical Director:

  • Appropriate background in music, teaching and working with SATB choirs, soloists and instrumentalists.
  • Wide knowledge of and ability to choose imaginative and engaging concert programmes with broad audience appeal, within the choir’s budget.
  • Planning a whole season in advance for approval by the committee.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and foster the development of an enthusiastic group of amateur singers.
  • Experience in liaising with, and engaging, soloists and instrumentalists, within the choir’s budget.
  • Proactive in promoting the growth of the choir both musically and numerically.
  • Ability to work in partnership with the committee and attend occasional meetings.
  • Available for 3 terms per annum, with approximately 39 rehearsals per annum.
  • The MD would be expected to attend regularly but should he/she be required to miss a rehearsal it would be their responsibility to arrange an alternative conductor.
  • The MD would be available on occasions to support the choir in extracurricular activities that are of benefit to the development of the choir.

 

Remuneration would be £85 per session and £338 per concert day, apart from the shortened Christmas concert, £169. 

The successful applicant will be engaged on a self-employed basis, being responsible for his or her own Tax and NI contributions
