Musical Director

Description of vacancy: 

A new interim Musical Director is required for Thomas Coats Memorial Choral Society for the season starting January 2023. We are a long established choral society  based in Paisley and in good commuting distance from Glasgow. Our membership prior to 2020 was in the region of 70 but, like many choirs, we were badly hit by the pandemic and our current membership is around 40.The members however are committed and enthusisastic to ensure that we can continue to sing  and perform choral music in Paisley. The choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings from January to mid March, with a small number of Friday rehearsals near to the concert. We perform one concert a year in March in venues such as Paisley Abbey and rehearsals are in central Paisley. We perform from the major choral repertoire with an orchestra and have had a strong link with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in previous years.

Remuneration is by annual fee to be agreed with the successful candidate as will terms of contract.

The following skills are important for the job:

  • Experience of conducting choir and orchestra would be beneficial.
  • The ability to motivate an adult choir to achieve high performance standards
  • Lead rehearsals with sense of humour and respect for individuals
  • Good organisational skills
  • Work collaboratively with the choir committee and office bearers
  • Design concert programmes with broad appeal to both audience and choir.

Selection will be by interview  and participation in a short audition rehearsal with the choir on 8/11/22 In Paisley.
