Madrigals and Motets by Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643)
Leeds Baroque Choir and Orchestra
The ancient and atmospheric church of St Andrew, Kildwick in Craven provides the perfect spring outing. Join Leeds baroque Choir and Consort, directed by Peter Holman, to experience some of Monteverdi’s most ravishing concerted music, dramatic, passionate and delightfully cheeky by turns. Most of it was written for the Mantuan court and uses the singers and instrumentalists he assembled for his opera L’Orfeo in 1607, including solo voices, choir and a five-part Baroque string consort with harpsichord and theorbo.
