The Phoenix Choir of Crawley

 

Phoenix Choir of Crawley invite you to ‘Music Makers of our Time’ a concert of choral music by contemporary composers, including Bob Chilcott, Sir Karl Jenkins, Sarah Quartel, Sir James MacMillan, and others.

The programme will include:

 Five Days that Changed the World by Bob Chilcott ‘a contemporary hero of British choral music’, takes us on a musical journey through five events: The invention of printing, the abolition of slavery, the first powered flight, the discovery of penicillin and the first man in space.

Sanctus and Benedictus, two much loved movements from The Armed Man by Sir Karl Jenkins, ‘one of the most performed living composers in the world.’

A Winter Day and I Will Be With You by Canadian Sarah Quartel, ‘known for her fresh and exciting approach to choral music.’ 

 O, Radiant Dawn by Sir James MacMillan, who has been called ‘the greatest British  composer since Britten’, his music described as ‘urgent, melodious, and burning to communicate’. 

 Our guest Ann Lines will play the cello solo in Benedictus from Karl Jenkins ‘The Armed Man’ and two other cello solos.

 Refreshments During the interval wine and soft drinks will be for sale. Card or cash payment.
