2024 Spring concert

Rutland Choral Society

We are delighted to present a performance of two works that are seldom heard around this region: Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein and Missa brevis by Zoltán Kodály.

Chichester Psalms was commissioned for the 1965 Southern Cathedrals Festival at Chichester Cathedral. This amazing work was most recently featured in the soundtrack of Maestro (Netflix, 2023), Bradley Cooper’s biopic on the life of the American composer Leonard Bernstein, who also wrote the music for West Side Story.

Missa brevis was composed by the Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály in the cellar of the Budapest Opera House while the city was under siege around the end of the Second World War.

The choir will be conducted by Jamie Conway and accompanied by Luke Fitzgerald (Assistant Director of Music, Coventry Cathedral) on the organ.

Oakham Train Station (https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations/OKM/details.html) is a 10-minute walk down Northgate from the concert venue. Car parks: https://www.rutland.gov.uk/roads-transport-parking/parking/council-car-p...
