One of the giants of jazz, drummer Art Blakey with his Jazz Messengers enjoyed international celebrity and launched the careers of numerous jazz musicians from the 1950s to the 1980s.

The National Youth Jazz Orchestra’s sextet includes some of our most talented young jazz players who will perform music by this 20th century legend. Art Blakey would have approved; he told a live audience, ‘I’m gonna stay with the youngsters. When these get too old, get some younger ones. Keeps the mind active.’
