Byrd Song
Welsh Camerata
The Welsh Camerata
On the evening of Midsummer’s Day, the Welsh Camerata returns to the Norwegian Church Arts Centre in Cardiff Bay after a long absence.
As the setting sun bathes the church in its evening light, the choir sings a fascinating selection of madrigals. Many come from two of the greatest composers of the first Elizabethan age, Byrd and Weelkes, both of whom died 400 years ago this year. The music is harmonious but intriguingly strange, referencing smouldering volcanoes, flying fish and plenty of bird song. The choir also reflects summer as it evokes the street cries of London and of the countryside, ending the concert with a triumphal chorus of “With hey, jolly buckets!” A celebration of midsummer madness, with the assistance of a consort of viols.~Welsh CamerataDirector: Andrew Wilson-DicksonNorwegian Church Arts Centre, Harbour Drive, Cardiff Bay CF10 4PASaturday 24 June 2023 | 7.30pm~Tickets can be purchased online {through http://www.welshcamerata.org} or on the door: £14/£12 concessions~There's much fine amateur choral singing in Wales and the members of the Welsh Camerata are proud to be part of that tradition. We are a small choir of around 25 singers and what makes us distinct is that we specialise in the authentic performance of early music - that composed in the eighteenth century and previous centuries (with the occasional, well-informed foray into later periods).~http://www.welshcamerata.org/
