Folk Traditions
Horsham Chamber Choir
A choral exploration of folk music from the British Isles, featuring The Drystones
Folk Traditions Vol 1 is the first instalment of our choral exploration of folk music from around the world. Many western audiences associate traditional choral music to be based in the church, but Timothy Peters (Horsham Chamber Choir's Director of Music) wants to explore the non-religious side of traditional music, which is most commonly found through the lens of folk music. This year the music will come from the British Isles and will include an explanation of the role this kind of music plays in the social contexts in which it is performed.
The choir will be joined by BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominees The Drystones, an ‘indecently talented’ duo of Alex Garden (fiddle) and Ford Collier (guitar, low whistle) who have been honing their take on traditional music since busking the streets of Somerset as teenagers. After years of playing the folk circuit, they are on a mission to make their shows a place where people of all generations can come to enjoy folk music.
