Calton Consort: Holst & Howells
Calton Consort
Come listen to Calton Consort present a lush programme of a cappella choral works by Imogen Holst and Herbert Howells, conducted by Rory Wilson.
Daughter of Gustav Holst, Imogen composed a great deal of music, much of it remaining unpublished. Imogen studied composition under the tutelage of Herbert Howells and her Mass in A minor was written in 1927 while she was studying under Vaughan Williams at the Royal College of Music.
Also programmed is Howells' Requiem written in 1932/33 and his notable motet, "Take Him, Earth, for Cherishing" written in memory of the assassinated John F Kennedy, this year being the 60th anniversary.
