Armida Quartet in Lewes

Nicholas Yonge Society Lewes

Since winning First Prize, the Audience Prize and six further prizes at the International ARD Competition in Munich in 2012, the Armida have had a distinguished career including being BBC New Generation Artists in 2014-16 and European Concert Halls Organisation (ECHO) 'Rising Stars' in 2016-17.  They have recently finished recording the complete Mozart quartets, collaborating with the publishers G Henle to produce a fastidious new Urtex t edition.
'Without a doubt, the Armida Quartet is one of the young newcomer ensembles that lets us experience music in a new way. We need not worry about the future of chamber music: it is already here.' RONDO magazine.

This concert will include the String Quartet No. 2 by  Serbian-born Marko Nikodijevic. He is one of the most exciting contemporary composers and he has gained worldwide attention, recently for his opera project '7 Deaths of Maria Callas' (together with Marina Abramovic). Great conductors such Vladimir Jurowski have performed his works, as have other ensembles such as Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Modern and Ensemble ascolta.

Also to be played are Mozart's String Quartet in D K.575 and Schumann's String Quartet Op. 41 No. 3
