Rachel Podger (violin)
Music in Peebles
Music of Baroque Europe
Rachel Podger has established herself as a leading interpreter of the Baroque and Classical music periods and is known for her virtuosic playing, outstanding musicianship and understanding of period style, and a cheerful, warm and decidedly non-stuffy stage presence.
In this solo recital, we are taken on a journey around Baroque Europe featuring the exuberant sounds of Nicola Matteis Jr, Johann Joseph Vilsmayr, Johann Paul von Westhoff and Johan Helmich Roman. We will also hear Bach’s most famous organ work in a new version for violin, arranged by Chad Kelly, in whose own new work Phantasia, ‘the spectre of Bach as organist looms large’.
We are thrilled to be included in this Scottish tour by one of the violin greats – one of the season’s hottest tickets!
