Brahms – Tragic Overture

Dvorak – Symphony no 8 in G major

The concert begins with the Tragic Overture which Brahms wrote as the counterpart to the Academic Overture performed in the orchestra’s October 2019 concert. We are delighted to welcome back Christopher Hedges to play Elgar’s Cello Concerto, his last major work written in 1919 as a ‘lament for a lost world’ following the end of the First World War. Our concert is completed with Dvorak’s charming and ever popular Symphony no 8 incorporating Bohemian folk songs and melodies of the Czech countryside.
