Handel's Messiah

Mid Wessex Singers

HANDEL'S MESSIAH - BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT!

Somerton will be the location of an exciting, operatic performance of an Easter Messiah on Saturday 25 April. This is a rare opportunity to experience Handel's most famous work in the way it would have been performed in the composer's day. Directed by Graham Coatman, the Mid Wessex Singers, with soloists and accompanied by a Baroque ensemble will tell the story of Easter through Handel's exuberant music. So, not the standard big chorus and orchestra, but a small chamber choir, with the soloists and musicians in a close arrangement, enabling a deeper expression of the music and text to deliver the Easter story in a more dramatic fashion.

Handel made frequent revisions to his music and some of these alternatives will be included. All the favourite, well known and exciting numbers will be there, such as the Hallelujah Chorus and 'I Know that my Redeemer Liveth', but the intimate quality of the music in a choir and orchestra of chamber proportions will allow the beauty and sentiment of Handel's music to shine through.

The concert will take place in St Michael's Church in Somerton at 7.30 pm on Saturday 25 April. For further information visit www.midwessexsingers.co.uk, e-mail info@midwessexsingers.co.uk or call the Secretary on 07929 803097.

Mid Wessex Singers, a registered charity, will make a donation from concert proceeds to the Somerton Area Dementia Action Alliance.
