Steps of the sun
Ah, Sun-flower! weary of time,
Who countest the steps of the sun.
Taking as inspiration these words of William Blake, Voix de Vivre presents an evening of music marking the passing of time and the changing of the seasons. Join us as we cast off Joseph Haydn’s ‘insane and stupid worries’ to travel to Venice, encountering mermaids and the sun god Phoebus on our way.
William Mathias's ecstatic setting of Gerard Manley Hopkins starts the second half of the concert and we round off the evening with Jonathan Dove’s journey through the seasons of the year, with settings of words by British and American poets.
